The
Volta Region Community Water Supply and Sanitation Programme was launched in
1984 as a joint venture between the governments of Ghana and Denmark. Its
development objective was to contribute towards better living and health
conditions for rural populations in the Volta Region of Ghana. To achieve this
goal, the Programme was to provide reliable and easily accessible sources of
drinking water to be managed by the recipient communities. At the same time,
water and excreta related diseases were to be reduced considerably through the
adoption of hygienic practices and improved sanitary installations.
